Inspired by Maya Angelou’s poem on overcoming oppression with grace and pride while having no sympathy for the oppressors, “Still I Rise” will focus on what happens once BIPOC leaders have broken the glass ceiling only to arrive at a newer phenomenon known as the “glass cliff”. In the last decade companies and nonprofits of all sizes have focused their resources on DEI initiatives. Many of those strategies include hiring racially diverse individuals in leadership positions and creating an influx of black and brown people occupying top roles, but not having the funding, support, or resources that their white, male counterparts were previously afforded. This workshop will identify the unique challenges experienced by BIPOC nonprofit executives and provide leadership development strategies that are culturally specific, and identify and nurture emerging leaders of color.
