Truth telling commissions have been used in various conflicts as a means to achieve justice following civil war or genocide. It is worth examining whether this is a possible avenue of justice for survivors of sexual violence so they can achieve justice and healing. We will walk through examples that centered trauma informed approaches and Indigenous led strategies. Then participants will brainstorm how truth telling commissions can be useful in the context of sexual violence within the United States.
